Every few episodes, a contestant would toss an over easy egg on top of whatever dish they had made (sometimes on purpose, but usually to help distract from / cover mistakes underneath).
Each time this happened, the judges would be absolutely beside themselves with amazement - raving and fawning about how innovative the chef was for "elevating the dish," as if they were all perpetually-surprised goldfish who had never encountered a runny egg before.
Apparently, "elevating a dish with eggs" is a trending topic in the culinary world. There is even a NYC food zine called "Put A Egg On It."
While I agree that many foods are improved with the addition of an egg (home fries, burgers, rice, etc.), the absurdity of the current hype and marketing around such a simple staple just makes me laugh. It's like, I hate to break it to you hip modern chefs, but I'm fairly certain people have been putting eggs on food since the discovery of birds.
