Day 281: I'm too Yoshi for this footwear

Last week I did a shout-out on the Facebook page asking for suggestions of what to draw next.  I received this response from E. A. Baker of Can't Stop a Squirtle - "A yoshi with different footwear than boots. Like if a bunch of them went out shoe shopping or something."
This morning I logged onto my computer and saw an article listing 25 shoe designs from Milan Fashion Week.
I decided to draw Yoshi modelling actual footwear designs from Milan (Alberta Ferretti, Byblos, and Alberto Zambelli), modified to reflect various characters from the Mario Bros. franchise (Toadette, Yoshi, and Luigi, respectively).

Any other suggestions on what to draw this week?

I'll admit this was kind of a cop-out because drawing Yoshi is deceptively difficult

Day 280: Half-blood prince

A play on muggle-born wizards.
You would think that in a fantasy world of unicorns, dragons, nargles, trolls, centaurs, veela, and hippogriffs, there would be a few anthropomorphic magical animals running around.

I don't know why this note amuses me so much, but it does.  Here we have Dora the Explorer in the role of "cloaked, solemnly-up-to-no-good" Harry Potter.  She is accompanied by her trusty, yet annoying, singing Marauder's Map.

Day 278: Power's best friend

A mashup of Rin Tin Tin and House Slytherin.
Rin Tin Tin almost single-handedly saved Warner Bros. Studio with his film Where the North Begins in 1923.  In 1929, he would have won the Academy Award for Best Actor if the studio hadn't decided to hand it to a human actor in a show of formality.  Despite having a bad temper, he took directions well and starred in a total of 27 films.  Two of his offspring also went on to lead successful acting careers.  He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was gifted with a key to NYC.  I would say that with so much cunning, power, and prestige, Rin Tin Tin extolled the virtues of House Slytherin well.

Continuing with our theme, here is the next Harry Potter parody, "Thurl Ravenclawft."  This drawing combines House Ravenclaw with one of Thurl Ravenscroft's iconic roles, Tony the Tiger.

Day 276: Crumple-horned wizardry

This week's theme will be "Harry Potter Parodies."  First up is "Hufflepuff the Magic Dragon," a mashup of the classic children's song character and Luna Lovegood. (Yes, I know she's a Ravenclaw, but he is totally a Hufflepuff. Plus, she is the only one who would be able to see him, and I think they would be fast friends.)

Also, I've created a Facebook page for this blog.  View it here.

Day 275: Better than cheezburgers

I love cats, I really do.  They are one of my three favourite animals (alongside cows and stingrays).  However I know that, given the chance, they would totally eat the Bluebird of Happiness without a second thought.  Then they'd gaze at you with a bored look that says "Human-shaped meat-sack, fetch me another snack before I decide your hand is tasty."

Let's face it, cats choose to sleep in the weirdest of spaces.

Day 273: Tastes as bad as it sounds

Cats were about the only thing our taste-bud-challenged elders *didn't* try to suspend in gelatin and pass off as food.  Authentic recipes include "Jellied Bouillon with Frankfurters," "Lime Cheese Salad," "Congealed Cabbage and Pickles in Lemon Jello," "Chicken and Liver Mousse," "Gelatin with Dr. Pepper and Green Olives," "Tongue in Aspic," and "Tuna and Pimento Jello."
Suddenly trans fats don't seem so scary.

I asked my husband what he wanted me to draw next, and he answered "cats/kittens in places where they should not be."  This was the image that immediately popped into my head.  I'm not sure what that says about me.

This is actually a pretty fitting likeness of my husband
