The mashup that no one expected, and no one wanted: Morrowind and Sailor Moon!
What happens when you mash together the opening theme song of Azumanga Daioh and the comedian Gabriel Iglesias (a.k.a. "Fluffy")?
This, apparently... I'm not sure exactly why, but lately I keep hearing anime referred to as "animu." I've heard it used as a joke, I've heard it used as a cutesy form of endearment for the art style, and I've heard it used in a derogatory manner to bash the genre and its fans. Maybe this is a well-known thing, and I am simply late in noticing it, but the term just sounds weird, and grates on my ears when I hear it. I can't help but picture anthropomorphic cows with all the anime tropes: big eyes, floating sparkles, glasses, braided hair, pop-up bangs, hovering emotion symbols, making cat noises to sound cute... so, that's exactly what I drew here - my interpretation of what my brain thinks whenever I hear "animu."
These are characters from the anime One Piece... drawn as peas.
Pea is for pun? We tried, we really tried watching Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, since it came so highly recommended by our friends, but it just made us angry and depressed, and we gave up after the first season. However, we were amused by Cheese-kun and the blatant Pizza Hut promotional tie-ins that were so incongruous with the rest of the story: "Sure, the characters are surrounded by racism, terrorism, oppression, drugs, betrayal, injustice, abuse of power, rampant destruction and death, but at least they can still order pizza!" ::facepalm::
Anytopping, here is a cute little Cheese-kun doodle. My husband and I sat down last year to watch the first season of Squid Girl on Netflix. It's super-cute, doesn't take itself too seriously, and is chock-full of puns. While it doesn't have the most inventive or introspective plot line, it is great casual fluff entertainment.
Today's note is inspired by the anime Popotan, where the family ferret occasionally rides around in Ai's cleavage. Despite its fanservice elements, the show has an interesting enough plot and some pretty insightful dialogue at points.
[We found out after-the-fact it was based on a racy video game, so BEWARE if you decide to Google it. The show is safely PG13, and doesn't depict anything too questionable, but the game (which we have not played) is apparently rated M for "mostly nekked."] |
