Nuwa was especially badarse; she is credited in Chinese folklore as one of the original Three Sovereign rulers, and her accomplishments include creating humans, single-handedly repairing the Wall of Heaven, and orchestrating the downfall of the Shang Dynasty because she thought King Zhou was a sleazebag.
A snake woman. I find it interesting that almost every major ancient civilization had their own female half-serpent myth, usually in the form of a deity or royal figure (Echidna and Delphyne, Nagi, Lamia, Nuwa, Wadjet, White Snake, Moura...).

Actual conversation my husband and I had last night:
Me: What should I draw this week? Him: Beautiful sci-fi/fantasy scenery. Me: Landscapes? I don't draw landscapes. Him: You could draw a volcano. Me: I love how your first thought was "volcano" for "beautiful fantasy landscapes." Him: You know, a pretty fantasy town, with a volcano popping out... So, I give you an organic crystalline tower complex in imminent danger from an erupting volcano because nothing says "high fantasy" like lava... This week's theme will be "Harry Potter Parodies." First up is "Hufflepuff the Magic Dragon," a mashup of the classic children's song character and Luna Lovegood. (Yes, I know she's a Ravenclaw, but he is totally a Hufflepuff. Plus, she is the only one who would be able to see him, and I think they would be fast friends.)
Also, I've created a Facebook page for this blog. View it here. I asked my husband what he wanted for a note, and he said "something aesthetically pleasing." I translated that to mean "anatomically inaccurate mermaid."
Here are a couple of old digital doodles I made for him.
I felt like drawing a fae and some toadstools. I wanted to play around with swirly, leafy hair.
Gnomes + Half-Life + Star Trek... this is how my brain thinks early in the morning. (That's a lie, this is how my brain always thinks. Luckily my husband appreciates my sense of humor).
Transcript: Fantasy creatures aren't mythical, they just discovered space travel first and emigrated. So when man finally set off to pursue strange new worlds, he was going where gnome-man had gone before. The half-life "Little Rocket Man" achievement is just a tip-of-the-[pointy]-hat to this great truth. "Fun conspiracy theory #6,000,050" [on rocket ship: "U.S.S. Pointy Hat"] |
