I recently played through Botanicula, and was enamoured by the art style, character designs, and humourous background touches that add depth and interest to the game world. One background element that particularly tickled me was the flying chestnut that buzzes around the chestnut village. He serves no gameplay purpose, but I thought he was cute and clever, and decided to dedicate a lunch note to him.
My husband, who has not played the game, saw the ellipses at the bottom of the note and just assumed this was going to be a new series of drawings like the traffic cones or Dango-san. In order to humour him, I continued Chestnut's adventures, so this ended up being part 1/7 instead of the intended one-shot. I had been playing a number of hidden object games (HOG's), and became increasingly annoyed at the problems unique to this genre: similar-looking items, misspelled / mislabeled / esoterically-labeled items, items completely hidden behind other objects, blurry piles of objects where you cannot delineate one thing from another, tiny items that can barely be seen, etc. The worst offender was the bonus content from Nightmares of the Deep , which went so far as to label knitting needles with yarn as "wires," a top hat as a "cylinder," and what was obviously a fishnet as a "landing" ...what? O.o
[As a side-note, if you like this style of game, I would recommend Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden, as it avoids almost all of the aforementioned problems, has an immersive horror atmosphere, follows an interesting plot line, and contains strong adventure-game elements.] I couldn't help myself. Itzanother jab at Civ V, this time with Super Mario.
My husband and I started playing Civilization V recently, and we couldn't help laughing at the overly dramatic flavour text for the Chichen Itza wonder. I decided to draw a pizza-based parody to poke fun at the game.
This note was motivated by my husband's response in this GameCola article, as well as his current playthrough of Tomb Raider 3.
My hubby was playing through Castlevania: Rondo of Blood as Maria, who has a cat based attack. (Seriously, she throws cats at the undead, and it's surprisingly effective.) I couldn't help but wonder why Dracula's castle was full of kittens, and decided that he must secretly be a crazy cat lady in disguise. So here is my game-inspired note depicting Dracula happily snuggled up with his kitty friends.
We have been playing Civilization V on PC, and the England AI keeps attacking us for no reason every single game.
Inspired by a hilarious bit of dialogue in the Mass Effect 3 "Citadels" DLC.
This was my response to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
