Day 11: Raven
"Rave-n"

Yeah, this whole thing is just one bad pun on the word rave.

If it makes you feel better, I did spend quite a lot of time looking at reference photos for ravens and crows, so the wings, feet, and beak are as accurate as I can make them.

I spent almost zero time looking at reference photos for the rave gear, though, so let's all pretend that's what cool kids were rocking three years ago.

This is also the last of the Drawlloween drawings because I never finished the rest of the challenges.

[digitally-colored pencil drawing of a raven wearing a yellow wig, pink sunglasses, an assortment of glowstick necklaces, a teal tutu with a pompom overlay and pink fringe, and a set of pink furry legwarmers. He is carrying a glowstick in each hand, and is singing "oon-tz-oon-tz-oon-tz-woop-woop"]

I don't think anyone has worn pink furry leg warmers since 1995.

I just did a quick internet search because I was curious. Furry leg warmers (or "fluffies") made their first appearance in the mid 90's, but continued as a rave staple through the early 00's.

By 2010, 90's nostalgia was in full swing on social media, and furry leg warmers and cybergoth fashion once again regained popularity. Concurrently, the release of the new MLP show fueled a rise in the popularity of ponies and unicorns, so furred leg warmers, which resemble fetlocks, were adopted by this new demographic as well.

In 2015, they were falling back out of favor, but were still quite common.

As of today, it looks like every rave supply store is still selling them for about $25 a pair, so people must still be buying and wearing them even if they aren't the most fashionable trend on the scene.
