I have a background in art history, our friend is a professional figurative artist, and my husband has a casual interest in architectural design. We each brought a unique perspective to our critiques of the sculptures, and while we didn't always agree, we generated some deep and fruitful conversations about composition principles, texture, symbolic meaning, balance, negative space, use of materials, and the changing point of view in a three-dimensional space; however, we never allowed ourselves to get too serious. Sometimes a giant three-legged dog-elephant is just a giant three-legged dog-elephant.
Last weekend, as part of the Smithsonian's "Free Museum Day," my husband and I went with our good friend up to Storm King Art Center in New Windsor, NY.
